gaiakidsThanks to Moms Meet and Gaia Herbs, I had the good opportunity to test and review with my son the USDA Certified Organic Bronchial Wellness syrup made by Gaia Herbs specifically for little ones.  I had been wanting to buy some other products from Gaia Herbs, such as the Elderberry Syrup, so this was a fortunate occurrence for me as I got to sample the company’s product before making purchases.

Gaia Herbs is a North Carolina-based company that makes herbal supplements and traditional herbal medicines.  The company utilizes “plant intelligence,” harvesting a plant’s capacity (its full spectrum of constituents intact) to have a therapeutic effect within the body – in fact, many of the plants are grown at Gaia own Farm.  While not all products are organic, there is a good selection of organic herbs and supplements (such as the Bronchial Wellness for Kids). Moreover, Gaia has a complete herb traceability program, going beyond transparency – the company allows you to experience the vibrancy and wonder of herbs outside of the bottle. You can go to the source and take a virtual walk on the Gaia Farm to watch as the herbs are planted, cultivated and harvested.  Further, you can enter the ID number located on the back of any Gaia Herbs product to view all the traceable aspects of each herbal component of your product and learn how science validates each step in the process from seed to shelf and explore each individual herb to learn about the uses, history and function.  It is pretty amazing, isn’t it?

Now, as for the product itself- the purpose of Bronchial Wellness for Kids is to promote respiratory well-being, healthy mucous membranes, and natural processes to ensure healthy throat tissue.  This product has been available in Europe for over 10 years and now it is finally in the US too. The organic extracts of herbs are combined with organic honey and flavorful essential oils to make them tasty for kids, while keeping it healthy, completely natural, and organic – no artificial colors, sweeteners, flavors, additives, corn syrup, and the like. It has organic honey and some organic sugarcane for taste.  The packaging is recyclable and the product is in a glass bottle, so that there are no concerns associated with plastic. A very good and responsible product indeed.

The syrup is not too sweet, but the herbal undertones are mellowed by the combination of lemon and honey. It is pleasant overall and both kids took to it very easily.  I tried this myself as my son has asthma and I like to try anything before giving it to him. It tastes like candy which might be a bad thing if you have kids that like it as they will want to have it all the time. Now that I have tried I will be buying it for my son to help him during the school year.

Overall, I am not surprised that this syrup has been a best-seller in Europe for over a decade – it has pure ingredients, performs well, and tastes good!  Available nationwide in health food stores and from online retailers such as Amazon.
